Is there any evidence of harmful long term effects caused by toe-walking? My daughter is 10 years old and has been toe walking since she started walking at 14 moths? 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Hy Zisla,

There isn't a ton of evidence of long term harmful effects, but it also depends on how strenuous the toe-walking is. The tendons in the back of the foot leading up the back of the leg can get strained and that of course is a concern so the docs suggest that you do massages in that area, ankle rolls and joint compressions which are an Autism therapy any ways. I have been toe walking since I could walk (I was a late walker) and I am 23 now. For some kids if it is a concern, they will temporarily put a brace under the heel and up the ankle a little ways so it can help with the re-training of 'how to properly walk heel to toe' and I must say that when the ankle is in a tight fit it can feel almost like the sensation that helps to promote balance, what we are trying to do in the first place.

Hope that helps. Feel free to ask anything else and let me know what you think!

Hugs,
Kris
