POLICE: Techniques to use when you have to work with an autistic person below these graphics...Read the Q's between the graphics: An autistic person may act out of control or strangely, resembling someone who is high or intentionally doing harm in the community. And, some autistic children will get lost easily so may be lost...

Slide 3 - Autism and it's World

Police use some of the same techniques as listed on the EMT/firefighter page; Don't run quickly towards the person with autism; They will hyperventilate and could end up running out into traffic.

ALSO try creating a community get-together to meet with the parents of children on the autism spectrum to get to know the child and recognize him/her as well as getting the child used to seeing a police officer and to not be frightened.
